Sixth-grader Sho Takamatsu storms out after a fight with his mother, then watches his entire Yamato Elementary vanish from the city in a violent tremor. The school and everyone inside it reappear stranded in a barren, lifeless wasteland, cut off from any adult help once the panicked staff turn on the children. As hunger, sickness, and the scheming caretaker Sekiya tear the survivors apart, Sho tries to hold the kids together and reach back toward the mother he left behind.
