Veil

A police officer on his beat meets a runaway heiress by chance on a cobblestone street, and when he learns she is looking for work he takes her on as the telephone operator at his station. Kotteri tells their story in short full-color vignettes: shifts at the front desk, errands around the neighborhood, and the careful distance the two keep from each other. Neither is ever given a name, and the line between friendship and something more stays as thin as the title suggests.
