At thirty, Michiko Shibata has no job, no money and no boyfriend after her company folds and the younger man she lavished gifts on turns out never to have cared for her. Bouncing from one failed interview to the next, she runs into Ayumu Kurosawa, the strict former boss she once couldn't stand. He offers her work at his café, Himawari, until she gets back on her feet, and the awkward arrangement edges toward something warmer.
