In 1998, otaku middle-schooler Hajime Kano spends every break playing the trading card game Magic: The Gathering with his friends. Their noise draws the constant disapproval of Emi Sawatari, the school's top student, who scolds the group for hauling cards to class — until the game pulls her in too. Across decks of black, white, and blue, the two academic rivals slowly close the distance between them. The title borrows the wording of a Magic card.
