Kokonotsu Shikada is the ninth-generation heir to a rural dagashi shop selling cheap candy, but he wants to draw manga, not run the family store. That changes when Hotaru Shidare, heiress to the Shidare candy conglomerate, arrives to recruit his father Yo. Yo agrees only if she can first convince Kokonotsu to take over the shop, so Hotaru settles into the village and visits daily, dragging him through a relentless stream of trivia and tasting sessions about Japanese penny sweets.
