During a sweltering summer the isolated mountain village of Sotoba is hit by a wave of unexplained deaths, just as a strange family called the Kirishiki moves into the long-abandoned Kanemasa mansion on the hill. The village doctor, Toshio Ozaki, refuses to accept the toll as an epidemic and starts picking apart the pattern in who is dying. What he finds points to the Shiki: risen corpses that feed on the living and are quietly turning Sotoba into a home of their own. This manga adapts Fuyumi Ono's horror novel.
