Ten thousand players are trapped inside Aincrad, a hundred-floor castle in the death-game VR world of Sword Art Online, where dying in the game means dying for real. This manga retells the climb from the very first floor in close detail, following Kirito, a cautious solo swordsman, and Asuna, a sharp newcomer who refuses to sit and wait to die, as they fight through the opening floor bosses. It expands the early Aincrad arc that the original story rushed past, told largely from Asuna's side as the two learn to clear floors together.
