Loosely drawn from Shakespeare's Henry VI and Richard III, the manga follows a young, intersex Richard, son of the Duke of York, as England splits between the houses of York and Lancaster during the Wars of the Roses. Haunted by visions and convinced of his own monstrousness, Richard fights for his father's claim to the throne while a fraught pull develops between him and Henry VI, the rival king he is meant to hate.
