Sixth-grader Haruo Yaguchi lives for arcades and 1990s fighting games until Akira Ono, the silent rich girl from his class, turns up at his downtown game center and crushes him at Street Fighter II. Stunned that she plays at all, he swears to beat her one day, and the rivalry pulls the two opposites into a friendship that follows them from grade school into high school. Rensuke Oshikiri grounds the romance in the exact machines and games of the era's arcade scene.
