Akane Nishimura, a quiet fifth-grader her classmates call 'Grim Reaper' to bully her into isolation, meets transfer student Taiyō Takada — a cheerful boy too oblivious to realize the nickname is meant as cruelty. Taiyō treats 'Grim Reaper' as the coolest title imaginable and attaches himself to Akane with relentless enthusiasm, pulling her into pool trips, sunflower fields, and fireworks festivals she had resigned herself to watching alone.
