Twelve years ago the supernova of Antares lit the sky, and people called the Altered began manifesting powers. Governments have shipped them to an island prison known as Island D ever since. Satoru Iida, a timid boy whose left hand disintegrates whatever it touches, is put on a transport ship there. On board he meets Jin Kazaragi, an S-rank inmate who copies any Altered's ability by touch and is searching for the older brother he was separated from. Inside the prison's self-run district, Satoru is drawn into Jin's fights with the inmates who hate him.
