Kakimoto, a university student and aspiring mystery novelist whose submissions keep getting rejected, witnesses something terrible on the street and finds himself entangled with a lonely elementary-school girl he calls U, who later gives her name as Yuu Yuugure. What begins as a strange, almost domestic confinement turns into a slow uncovering of the truth about U — knowledge Kakimoto comes to feel he was never meant to have.
