Rokudou Momiji is an unremarkable boy admitted to Naraka High School, an institution that promises its graduates wealth and secure government posts and accepts only students who can see a floating island in the sky. On the first day, when the class is told to write down a single kanji they will need for the future, Momiji writes "change" — and monsters begin erupting from the ground, forcing the students into a fight for survival. Each time the island aligns with the sun, a new "God's Blight" strikes, and only those who last a year may graduate and walk free.
