Momiji Rokudou is an ordinary first-year at Naraka High School, which admits only students who can see the island floating in the sky and promises its graduates wealth and a secure government post. On the first day the class is told to write one kanji they will need for the future. Momiji writes "change," and the word becomes his power, letting him take the form of people he knows, just as monsters start erupting from the ground. Each time the island crosses in front of the sun another wave arrives, and only those who last a year graduate.
