Junichi Naruse works at a machinery maker's service plant and paints in his free time, which is how he comes to know Megumi Hamura, a clerk at the art-supply shop he frequents. Caught in a robbery at a real estate office, he shields a young girl from the gunman and takes a bullet to the head; he survives only because surgeons replace the ruined part of his brain with a donor's. The recovery is quick, but his tastes, his temper and his hand for painting all start to change.
