On the frozen surface of the artificial planet Aposimz, exiles live with the Frame disease, which turns people into biomechanical husks, and with the Rebedoan Empire that rules from the planet's core. Etherow, Eo and Biko are in the middle of combat training outside their settlement, White Diamond Beam, when a girl runs up with Rebedoan soldiers behind her. She asks them to help her keep a code and seven strange bullets safe, and the marksman Etherow's life turns on that request.
