In the Rokuhara era, an invented age in which the Heike crushed the Genji and Japan's nights crawl with demons, the Taira princess Chiyo is fifteen and under a curse that will kill her at sixteen. She travels the country after a rumor of an undying man called Kijin-sama, and finds him: Uratarou, eight hundred years old, unable to die however hard he tries, wanting only an end. The two set off together toward the Yomi Pass, each chasing the opposite of what the other already has.
