Shouya Ishida spent elementary school tormenting Shouko Nishimiya, a deaf transfer student, until his classmates turned on him and he became the outcast instead. Years later, isolated and crushed by guilt, he tracks Shouko down at her sign language class to return the notebook she left behind and attempt an apology. Their reunion as high schoolers draws in old classmates on both sides of the bullying, reopening wounds neither has fully healed. Animated film by Kyoto Animation.
