Built by Dr. Tenma as a robotic double for his dead son Tobio, the boy later known as Atom is abandoned to a circus ringmaster, Ham Egg, when he can't grow up like a real child. Rescued by the kindly Dr. Ochanomizu and set free, Atom begins a life defending the fragile peace between humans and robots, no matter how many people look down on him for being one.
