For generations, witches lent their magic to keep the peace with humanity, until the Redia Empire, its science now able to match or outdo witchcraft, declares witches obsolete and orders them wiped out. The witch Chloe raised the human orphan Adonis in secret and trained him in her craft; when the empire catches and executes her, Adonis is left with a diminished human version of her spellcraft called Written Style Summoning Magic, and he sets out to make the whole of humanity pay.
