Dariel spends his thirties as a dark soldier in the Demon King's army, unable to cast a single spell despite his rank, until the new general Bashbarza fires him the moment he inherits his father's position. Cast out of his hometown with nowhere to go, Dariel wanders into human territory and saves a girl named Malika from a monster attack. She takes him in, and living among humans finally reveals the real reason magic never worked for him: he was never a demon to begin with.
