Two months after the Nine Schools Competition attack, Tatsuya Shiba gets pulled into hunting down Zhou Gongjin, the mastermind behind that incident, who has fled to the old capital of Kyoto and taken shelter with the Traditionalists. His aunt Maya Yotsuba sends the Kuroba twins to deliver a direct request for his help, and Tatsuya and his sister Miyuki head to the Kudou family estate, now the center of resistance against Zhou's allies, just as Kyoto prepares to host that year's National High School Magic Thesis Competition.
