Fuutarou Uesugi is top of his year, short of both friends and money, and living hand to mouth when a tutoring job lands in his lap that pays well enough to matter at home. His students turn out to be five identical classmates, the Nakano sisters Ichika, Nino, Miku, Yotsuba and Itsuki, and not one of them wants to be taught. This prose retelling follows the anime's story beats from inside Fuutarou's head: learning to tell the five apart, working around Nino's hostility and Itsuki's evasions, and the days at their apartment that keep throwing them together.
