Alien Amanto have conquered feudal Japan, and swordsmen like Sakata Gintoki scrape by on odd jobs with Shinpachi Shimura and Kagura. When the Anti-Foreigner Faction's leader plots a mecha attack on the shogunate, Gintoki's ragtag Yorozuya crosses paths with the Shinsengumi's Hijikata Toushirou and Okita Sougo, and the two groups settle a cherry-blossom-viewing turf dispute through an increasingly violent round of rock-paper-scissors. This one-off special aired at Jump Festa 2005, a year before the TV series proper, and works as the franchise's original pilot.
