Tatsuya Shiba serves as engineer for First High School's team at the Nine Schools Competition, the annual magic tournament where his sister Miyuki competes as one of the school's star entrants. Third-year student council president Mayumi Saegusa is on the roster too, along with Tatsuya's classmates Erika Chiba and Shizuku Kitayama, and his unusual position as a Course 2 student among them draws scrutiny from rival schools and his own.
