In the village of Hinamizawa, summer 1983, Rena Ryuuguu grows suspicious when her father starts dating Rina Mamiya, a woman Rena becomes convinced is scheming to take his money. Rena's attempts to investigate spiral into paranoia about everyone around her, including her closest friend Keiichi Maebara, as she becomes fixated on the town's buried history of murders and disappearances. This arc of the manga answers questions raised in earlier chapters about Rika Furude and the curse hanging over Hinamizawa, following Rena to the edge of what she's willing to do to protect her father.
