The five friends from their high school animation club were each starting out alone: Aoi Miyamori newly hired at Musashino Animation, Ema Yasuhara facing her first day as an animator, Shizuka Sakaki still in voice-acting school, Misa Toudou studying 3D modeling at a vocational college, and Midori Imai working on a film. This light novel collects five prequel stories set before the Shirobako anime begins, one for each of them, about the early stumbles that shaped who she'd become.
