Young archer Tigrevurmund Vorn, a nobleman from the Brune territory of Alsace, is captured on the battlefield by Eleonora Viltaria, one of seven warrior-rulers called Vanadis who each wield a dragon-forged weapon. Impressed by his skill instead of finishing him off, Elen spares Tigre's life on the condition that he serve her, pulling him out of Brune's civil war and into Zhcted's politics instead.
