The Wind Rises: Miyazaki's Delusional Comeback

Aircraft designer Jiro Horikoshi, creator of the Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter, is the real historical figure at the center of this manga, though Miyazaki draws most of the cast as anthropomorphic pigs. Alongside Horikoshi's engineering career runs his romance with Naoko Satomi, a young woman recovering from tuberculosis whom he meets while she is convalescing in the mountains, a thread borrowed from the 1930s novel that gives the manga its title. The manga was later expanded into the 2013 feature film The Wind Rises.
