Synopsis
Four suitors gather at a snowbound estate for a contest of kōdō, the refined art of incense appreciation, staged to choose a husband for Princess Ruri, only daughter of the Misono house of incense masters. What most of them are really after is the legendary incense Tōdaiji that comes with her. The wandering medicine seller Kusuriuri slips in among them and senses a Nue, the chimeric spirit stitched from a monkey's head, a tiger's limbs and a snake's tail, stalking the gathering, and sets out to uncover its Shape, Truth and Reason before the contest turns fatal.
