Yang Wen-li carries the long Spiral Labyrinth arc of this second Gaiden series, an investigation into the death of Alliance hero Bruce Ashbey. Four shorter stories run alongside it, following Reinhard von Lohengramm and Siegfried Kircheis through a mutiny, a duel, a hostage rescue, and the Third Battle of Tiamat. Together they fill in the years the two officers spent climbing the Imperial ranks before the main series begins.
