Synopsis
Kakeru Kurahara is a talented but directionless runner with a shady past when dormitory leader Haiji Kiyose catches him shoplifting and recruits him on the spot for an outlandish plan: fielding a team of ten amateurs from Chikusei-sou dormitory for the Hakone Ekiden, one of Japan's most demanding relay races. None of the other residents have serious running experience, but Haiji's conviction pulls them in one by one. This novel is the original source for the manga and anime adaptations.
