Synopsis
Once every twelve years, twelve warriors take the names of the Chinese zodiac and fight to the death for a single wish. Each of them swallows a poisoned jewel that will kill its bearer within twelve hours, and the only way out is to collect all twelve before the deadline. Rat, real name Tsugiyoshi Sumino, is a sleepy-looking fighter carrying a wakizashi; Ox, real name Eiji Kashii, is a stoic swordsman feared as a genius of slaughter. Written from inside each warrior's perspective in turn, the novel moves through the full field of combatants.
