Souji Seta moves to the rural town of Inaba to stay with his uncle and quickly falls in with classmates Chie Satonaka, Yosuke Hanamura, and Yukiko Amagi, who share an urban legend about the Midnight Channel: a soulmate's reflection said to appear on a switched-off television during rain at midnight. When someone they've watched on the Channel turns up murdered, the four realize the legend is tangled up in a string of real killings, and start digging on their own, uncovering a way into the television itself that holds the key to the case.
