Synopsis
Balsa, a spear-wielding bodyguard from Kanbal bound by a vow to save eight lives, is hired by the Second Empress to protect her son Chagum after the emperor decides the boy has to die. The court holds that Chagum is possessed by a water demon like the one the first emperor slew when New Yogo was founded, so Balsa has to smuggle him past his own father's soldiers. The series opens with that flight from the palace and the long road that follows.
