After spatial anomalies known as Hell's Gate and Heaven's Gate appear, people called Contractors emerge — individuals with supernatural abilities who must perform a compulsive remuneration each time they use their power. In Tokyo, the masked assassin Hei operates for a shadowy organization called the Syndicate, posing as a Chinese exchange student named Li Shenshun by day while hunting rival Contractors and unraveling the mysteries behind Hell's Gate at night.
