This novelization retells the same story as the manga and the animated film in prose: Suzu Urano, married at eighteen into a household in the naval city of Kure in 1944, keeping a sketchbook of the small things in front of her while rationing tightens and the air raids come closer. Nothing about the story changes, only the way it is told.
