Special Ops AX agent Abel Nightroad, a centuries-old vampire who feeds on other vampires, continues his fight to keep the peace between the human Vatican and the vampire New Human Empire. This second six-volume arc picks up where Rage Against the Moons left off, sending Abel and the novice nun Esther Blanchett after Gyula, the Marquis of Hungary, before he can unleash a devastating relic called the Star of Sorrow. The series was left unfinished partway through this arc.
