.hack//Liminality

High schooler Mai Minase and her boyfriend Tomonari Kasumi both collapse while playing the online game "The World." Mai wakes up quickly, but Tomonari slips into an unexplained coma. Junichiro Tokuoka, the game's creator, contacts Mai and tells her that six other players around the country have suffered the same fate, drawing her into his investigation of what is happening inside The World. Unlike most of the .hack franchise, Liminality plays out entirely from the real-world side of events rather than inside the game.
