Escaflowne, the guardian mecha of Fanelia, has been stolen, leaving the kingdom in ruins. Prince Van Fanel crosses over to Earth in search of it and finds himself facing an ordinary high school girl, Hitomi Hoshino, who turns out to hold the key to unlocking it. Serialized under the title Messiah Knight before its two collected volumes were renamed HITOMI, it is an alternate retelling of The Vision of Escaflowne with its own version of the cast.
