Ayano Hanesaki grew up training under her mother, a former national badminton champion, until a crushing middle-school defeat and her mother's departure left her resenting the sport and living with her grandparents. When she transfers to a struggling high school team coached by former Olympian Kentarou Tachibana, team captain Nagisa Aragaki, still carrying her own loss, clashes with the naturally gifted but unmotivated Ayano. Their rivalry forces both girls to confront why they picked up a racket in the first place.
