Kazuhito Harumi, obsessed with light novels, is shot dead trying to protect a stranger during a cafe robbery, and is reborn as a dachshund adopted by that very woman, novelist Kirihime Natsuno. Only she can hear his thoughts, which is small comfort given her habit of menacing him with a pair of scissors whenever he misbehaves. Across the original ten-volume series, Kazuhito navigates cafe regulars and Kirihime's eccentric circle while trying to steer her toward finishing the manuscript he was dying to read.
