Synopsis
A portal erupts in Tokyo's Ginza district, spilling a medieval army of soldiers, dragons, and orcs into modern Japan. After the Self-Defense Force repels the invasion, otaku officer Youji Itami leads a reconnaissance team through the Gate into a fantasy continent. He brokers fragile truces with the Empire that launched the attack while gathering an unlikely party — Rory Mercury, a nine-hundred-year-old demigod apostle; Lelei La Lalena, a teenage mage; and Tuka Luna Marceau, an elf whose village the dragon destroyed — each pulled into the geopolitical friction between Japan, the Empire, and rival world powers eyeing the Gate.
