Arte
Arte
Arte, born into a noble Florentine family, wants nothing but to paint, a career closed to women in early 16th-century Italy. After her father's death leaves her mother pushing marriage instead, Arte spends months being turned away by workshop after workshop until the young painter Leo takes her on as his apprentice, more out of curiosity than charity. Under Leo's blunt tutelage she starts learning to mix pigment and stretch canvas alongside apprentices who never expected a noblewoman at their bench, climbing slowly toward a trade that was never meant to include her.
