After breaking a shrine's kappa statue, middle schoolers Kazuki, Toi and Enta wake up transformed into kappas themselves. Keppi, the self-declared prince of the Kappa Kingdom, tells them the only way back to human bodies is to hunt down kappa-zombies and pull the Dishes of Hope from inside them. First, though, they have to survive two police officers secretly working for the rival Otter Empire. This novel retells the Sarazanmai anime's story of three boys forced to face what they have been hiding from each other.
