Hanae Ashiya's first day of high school goes wrong when a small, clingy yokai attaches itself to him and starts draining his energy. A flyer leads him to Haruitsuki Abeno, an exorcist who agrees to remove the creature, but for a price Ashiya cannot pay. That is how he ends up working off the debt at Abeno's Mononokean, an otherworldly tearoom that helps yokai move on. As the two spend their afternoons exorcising increasingly strange spirits, Ashiya starts uncovering secrets Abeno has kept about the Mononokean's last owner.
