One night in Kyoto, a college student known only as the girl with black hair sets out to drink her way across the city, drawn from a wedding reception into a used-book fair and onto the stage of a guerrilla theater troupe. An upperclassman who has liked her for months trails behind, engineering chance meetings he hopes will finally register with her. The novel later inspired both a manga adaptation and a 2017 animated film.
