Genbu Shobo transfers taciturn salesman Majime Mitsuya into its long-neglected dictionary department, where veteran editor Araki is racing to find a successor before retirement. Paired with the more sociable Nishioka, Majime turns his obsessive attention to words toward compiling a new mid-sized Japanese dictionary the team calls The Great Passage. This manga adapts the novel The Great Passage, which had already been made into a live-action film and an anime series.
