Junior-high student Ueki Kousuke is chosen as a Talent-holder in a hidden tournament: one hundred god candidates each sponsor a middle-schooler, granting them a strange power to fight for the vacant throne of the Celestial World. Ueki's power turns garbage into trees, a seemingly weak ability he learns to weaponize with growing creativity against rival Talent-holders. The student left standing wins the Blank Talent, which becomes whatever talent he chooses, and his sponsor takes the throne; using a power on an ordinary bystander costs the user one of his own talents. Alongside classmate Ai Mori, Ueki takes on opponents willing to fight dirty for the crown.
