Having recovered the Cosmo Reverse System, the Yamato crew meets a mysterious faction called Gatlantis at the edge of the Large Magellanic Cloud and comes under fire from its devastating Flame Direct Attack Cannon. The ship escapes into an irregular dimension, where Susumu Kodai leads a landing party onto an unfamiliar planet and finds a derelict vessel there, along with answers the Yamato's own science officer Mikage Kiryuu reads out of the inscriptions on its walls. This film sits inside the Yamato 2199 continuity, following directly from the TV series.
