In 2035, fifteen-year-old Aiko Tachibana has spent two years grieving the family she lost in 'the Burst,' a bioengineering catastrophe that sealed off Kurobe Gorge behind a wall of runaway synthetic life called Matter. Transfer student Yuuya Kanzaki then tells her that she may be a duplicate, created from a girl still trapped inside the quarantine zone.
